A 12-month trial for a new Greyhound off-leash dog exercise area and a vulnerable dogs area is now underway at South Street Reserve.

The off-lead greyhound area will take up part of the southern fenced area of the reserve (see map) with a separate dedicated area specifically designated for ‘vulnerable dogs’ – dogs which are old, small or recovering from injury or illness.

All other parts of the reserve will remain the same and signage has been installed for the information of regular reserve visitors.

A consultation about this was held in in late 2023 and 68 survey responses were received as well as many individual submissions and conversations. This change was strongly supported with 85% agreeing with the proposed change.

At its meeting on 11 December 2023 the Council voted to support a 12-month trial – view the meeting agenda here.

A survey will be open throughout the duration of the trial for community feedback and experiences.

The trial will run from 2 March 2024 to 1 March 2025, unless extended.
