The beach is usually sheltered from southern ocean swells by the South Arm Peninsula and Bruny Island but can be exposed to swells during stormy weather.
There are spectacular views from the beach of the Derwent Estuary and surrounds, from South Arm and Bruny Island in the south, to Sandy Bay and Mount Wellington in the west.
Bellerive Beach can be accessed at several locations including Bellerive Beach Park and off Alexandra Esplanade.
