Our Council has a network of over 450kms of footpaths and multiuser pathways, including the Foreshore Trail.
Not all footpaths are associated with a road, and not all roads have a footpath. For existing roads there is no requirement to have a footpath on both sides of a road where a footpath already exists.
We have an annual program of repairs. The footpath program involves an audit of every footpath throughout the city, and from this audit all faults are rated according to their severity.
Due to the amount of faults identified, a program of repairs is then developed on a suburb by suburb basis, with each suburb limited to a period of approximately 4 months to ensure the higher rated faults in all areas are attended to.
The full cycle of the program takes between four to five years.
