Commissioner for Declarations
A Commissioner for Declarations can witness signatures to documents, certify a true copy of an original document and take statutory declarations.
Commissioner for Declarations at Clarence City Council are available Monday and Wednesday between 9.00am – 11.00am at Council Chambers – appointments are not required.
For Commissioner of Declarations outside of these hours it is also offered by your local Chemist or Service Tasmania (if related to transactions they process).
Justice of the Peace
A Justice of the Peace (JP) acts as an independent and objective witness to documents people use for official or legal purposes.
Clarence City Council JP’s are available Monday and Wednesdays between 9.00am–11.00am at Council Chambers – appointments are not required.
A JP can witness;
- affidavits
- warrants
- oath
- wills
- applications for probate
- summons, and
- where it has been explicitly requested, documents can be witnessed by a Justice of the Peace. (E.g. Statutory Declarations, Certify a true copy of an original document).
