Immunisations
Immunisation is a simple and effective way of protecting against certain diseases.
Council operates regular immunisation clinics and we also administer a school immunisation program in the city.
Council-run immunisation clinics
Where: Clarence Integrated Care Centre, 16 Bayfield Street, Rosny Park (access is via the car park at the rear of the building).
When: Clinics are held on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Vaccinations provided at Council Clinics are under the Australian and State Government vaccination schedules, which are free of charge for eligible groups.

A 15-minute wait after vaccination is recommended.
Please note: if the person being vaccinated has received prior vaccinations outside of Australia that have not been recorded in myGov, or you are unsure if they have been recorded, please contact the Immunisation Team on 03 6217 9570 before making an online booking.
Meningococcal A, C, W & Y vaccine
Meningococcal ACWY vaccine (Nimenrix) is now funded under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for children at 12 months of age and students in year 10. Additionally, all 15 to 19 year-olds who have not had this immunisation are eligible for the free vaccine which is available at council’s community clinics or by visiting your GP.
Other vaccines
Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccines are recommended and free through Clarence City Council’s community immunisation clinics for the following:
- Pregnant women
- All 12 to 13 year olds (grade 7)
The vaccine is also recommended for people who are at risk or are caring for a person who is at risk (e.g. newborn babies under 6 months of age). Vaccines for this group are available through your GP or pharmacy.
Flu Vaccines are free for the following:
- All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and older
- Pregnant women (during any stage of pregnancy)
- Infants 6 months to less than 5 years
- People with eligible medical conditions (see more detail at https://www.health.tas.gov.au/publications/funded-influenza-immunisation-schedule )
- All people aged 65 years and older
Other groups are recommended to check availability with their GP or pharmacy
Shingles vaccine is free for over 65’s – the website will be updated when the vaccine is in stock.
We do not offer travel vaccinations – contact your doctor for this information.
School immunisation
School immunisation programs are run free of charge for grade 7 and grade 10 students.
Information and consent form/s are distributed to students through their school at the beginning of each school year. Parents are requested to read the information, sign the consent form and return it to the school by the due date.
If you have returned the relevant forms to the school and your child is absent on the day vaccination is done, you will receive an invitation to attend one of our immunisation clinics, or you can visit your doctor. After hours clinics are also available for catch-up vaccines. Please contact us on 03 6217 9570 for more information.

Immunisation records
We only hold records for immunisations that have been provided by us. To obtain records of immunisations given by other providers i.e. a doctor, other councils, contact them directly.
For all children born after 1996 up until the age of seven, immunisation records are available from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809 or visit www.medicare.gov.au.
The Department of Health and Human Services retain some old records of immunisation administered at child health clinics and can be contacted on 1300 135 513.
School immunisation records
School based immunisation records are held by each council. Contact the local council in the area where the school(s) your child attends/attended to find out how to request a copy of the records held by that council.
