Clarence welcomes move to retain Lauderdale doctors

Clarence City Council has welcomed the news that the Tasmanian Liberal Government has thrown its support behind the Lauderdale General Practice to ensure it remains open for Eastern Shore residents.

Prior to the state government announcement by Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, the clinic announced it would close its Lauderdale location in June 2024 citing doctor and staffing shortages.

Clarence City Council Mayor, Brendan Blomeley said it was a health service Clarence residents deserve and need.

“This is fantastic news for Clarence, and I thank the Health Minister Guy Barnett for his efforts in supporting this critical service in our region,” he said.

“The Lauderdale practice is a key regional health clinic servicing hundreds of people living in Lauderdale, and down the South Arm Peninsula.

“Healthy communities rely on their local GP and practices such as these so they can grow and thrive.

“At a time when health services across the state are stretched, it is critical to keep services like the Lauderdale practice open, alleviating some of the pressure on the public hospital system.”
