We are approaching the final phase of construction work and anticipate completion early July.

From Monday 27 May 2024 to Sunday 30 June 2024 we will begin the process of preparing for the installation of the final section of stormwater pipe between Beach Street and the River Derwent.

This is significant work which involves preparing the dunes, beach and riverbed – including the excavation of sand and ground between Beach Street though the shoreline of Bellerive Beach to the end of the new stormwater outfall.

To ensure community safety, part of Bellerive Beach and the Clarence Foreshore Trail, surrounding roads and carparks will be temporarily closed between Monday 27 May 2024 and Sunday 30 June 2024. Roads will remain closed until Friday 12 July 2024 to allow for final works.

Please see details of the closures below:

  • Bellerive Beach will be closed at the area where works are being conducted – between the entrance west of Beach Street and the entrance at High Street. You will still be able to access the beach, however detours will be in place for the section where the works are conducted.
  • The Clarence Foreshore Trail will be closed to all users at the section at the end of Beach Street –signage will be in place to detour people via Luttrell Avenue.
  • Beach Street will be temporarily closed between Church Street and Luttrell Avenue and Luttrell Avenue will be temporarily closed between Beach Street and Facy Street. Access will be available for local traffic only.
  • Car parking on Beach Street will be impacted and reduced to allow room for construction traffic.
  • There may be extended work hours. This will be minimised where possible.

Bellerive Beach is a valuable natural asset, and environmental approvals are in place to ensure sand dues are revegetated and regenerated to their preexisting state, and marine life (such as the protected spotted handfish) aren’t impacted.

Following the completion of these works the temporary compound site on Alexandra Esplanade will be removed within 14 days of completion of the works.
