Clarence City Council’s Visual Arts program is rounding out the year with two stellar exhibitions in the Schoolhouse Gallery fresh off the back of the annual Poochibald Art Prize.

‘Between buildings as between stars’ brings together the work of Andy Hutson, Alicia King, Georgia Lucy, Meg Walsh, Kate Marshall, Ali Noble, Meg Walsh, and Grace Wood to explore the intersections between the known tangibility of material worlds and spaces unknown in a wonderful group show curated by incredible local artist, Amber Koroluk-Stephenson.

Drawing on the popular modern paraphrase, ‘as above, so below’, from the medieval Hermetic text of the Emerald Tablet, this exhibition delves into the human desire to uncover meaning and understanding and will be on display at the Schoolhouse Gallery from Friday 25 October to Sunday 17 November, Wednesday – Sunday, 11am – 5pm.

At the same time, Clarence City Council is calling for submissions for this year’s Clarence Textile and Fibre Exhibition, which began over 20 years ago now and is open to everyone in the community.

The 2024 exhibition is open to artists working in both contemporary and traditional textile media and will include a special guest exhibition, The Gauntlet Project 1992 from the Bellerive Community Art Centre.

Anybody can submit a textile or fibre artwork, with full details and entry requirements available on the Clarence Arts and Events website. Entries close on Thursday 10 November.

The 2024 Clarence Textile and Fibre Exhibition will run from Friday 22 November to Sunday 15 December, Wednesday – Sunday, 11am – 5pm.
