All Clarence residents eligible to vote will receive a letter from the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.
How do I cast my vote?
The poll will be conducted by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (TEC) as a postal ballot. To vote in this local government elector poll, you must be correctly enrolled before 6 pm on Thursday 27 June 2024.
If you are correctly enrolled for state and federal elections then you are automatically enrolled to vote in local government elections and polls. If you don’t live in the Clarence City municipal area, you may be eligible for inclusion on the General Manager’s roll.
To submit your vote, follow these five easy steps.
1. Consider your vote
Read this information brochure and each question carefully before recording your vote.
2. Record your vote
When you have decided how you wish to vote, write ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ in each box on the ballot paper. Answer both questions.
3. Make your vote secret
Put your completed ballot paper in the ballot paper envelope and seal it securely.
4. Validate your vote
Sign your ballot paper envelope. Your vote won’t be counted if you don’t.
Then put your ballot paper envelope in the reply paid envelope and seal it.
5. Post your vote
Post your reply paid envelope straight away – there in no need for a stamp.
You can also lodge your envelope at the Clarence City Council office: 38 Bligh Street, Rosny Park.
What will I be asked?
There will be two Yes/No questions asked.
To align with the wording of the elector poll petition, the TEC have decided the questions will be:
- Do you support building the AFL High Performance Centre entirely within the Rosny Parklands?
- Do you support building the AFL High Performance Centre across both Rosny Parklands and Charles Hand Park?
Voting YES to both questions would indicate you want the High Performance Centre in either the Rosny Parklands, or the Rosny Parklands and Charles Hand Park.
Voting NO to both questions would indicate you do not want the High Performance Centre in Rosny Parklands or Charles Hand Park at all.
You can also vote YES to one option, and NO to the other.
Key dates
The TEC expected poll schedule is as follows:
- Thursday 27 June, 6pm – enrolment (to vote) closes
- Wednesday 10 July – ballot packs delivered by post
- Thursday 8 August 2pm – poll closes
- Friday 9 August, 9am – counting of ballot papers and progressive results
Why is an elector poll being held?
The decision to run an elector poll came following the tabling of a petition of over 1000 Clarence residents at the 17 June Council Meeting – click here to view meeting minutes and agenda. In accordance with the Local Government Act, if a petition of 1000 signatures calling for an elector poll is submitted to Council within 30 days of a public meeting, Council must conduct the poll.
What if my ballot pack is damaged or I didn’t get one?
If you haven’t received your ballot pack by mail delivery on Monday 15 July or require a replacement ballot pack, the following options are available:
