Clarence City Council tonight celebrated the unveiling of the Tasmania Devils AFL team in style with community members from near and far piling into Charles Hand Park to watch a live stream of the announcement and be part of Tasmanian football history.
Mayor Brendan Blomeley said the great success of tonight was a testament of the city’s support of being the home of the Tasmania Devils, through the development of the AFL/AFLW High Performance Centre in Rosny Parklands and Charles Hand Park.
“Last year Council engaged with our community and what we heard was resoundingly clear – they wanted the home of Tasmanian AFL to be here in Clarence.
“Council is doing right by its community and tonight we continue to deliver, bringing our community together to celebrate this milestone,” Mayor Blomeley said.
“Tonight we saw around 600 members of the community in our park, a trend we look forward to continuing once the team is here and the crowds flock to watch them train, and hopefully from time to time, play.
“The new logo is great, and colours and jumper look fantastic – I can’t wait to see the AFL and AFLW teams make Clarence their home.
“I feel honoured to have been here tonight, amongst my community, colleagues, neighbours, and peers, to observe and celebrate this moment in history.”
