Clarence City Council has voted to endorse its proposal to be the home of the AFL High Performance Centre.
Council’s submission to the State Government will propose a preferred option being for Charles Hand Park to accommodate the High Performance Centre’s primary oval, training and administration buildings and associated infrastructure, with a second oval to be located in the Rosny Parklands.
A secondary option will be listed in the report for Rosny Parklands to accommodate the High Performance Centre’s primary oval, training and administration buildings and associated infrastructure, with a second oval to be located in Charles Hand Park – a mirror image of the preferred option.
Clarence City Council Mayor, Brendan Blomeley, said an AFL High Performance Centre in Clarence will deliver social and economic benefits to the city like we have never seen before.
“Together with cricket programs at Blundstone Arena, an AFL High Performance Centre in Rosny will see Clarence be the home of elite sport in Tasmania,” Mayor Blomeley said.
“We will have Tasmania’s elite sporting talent in and around the heart of our city, inspiring our next generation, engaging with our youth, our schools and community.
“The potential flow on social and economic benefits for the immediate area, schools and businesses is huge.”
