Blomeley announced as Mayor Elect
Clarence City Council Councillor Brendan Blomeley has been announced as Mayor Elect for the City of Clarence.
The Tasmanian Electoral Commission made the announcement late Wednesday night with Mayor Elect Blomeley winning with a total of 16,933 votes.
Mayor Elect Blomeley said he was honoured to be given the opportunity and responsibility of guiding Clarence over the next four years.
“It’s been an honour to serve my community over the last four years and I am looking forward to leading this new iteration of council as we tackle some big challenges and some big opportunities for our region in the coming years,” he said.
“I want to thank all of my supporters, and voters, who have given me this opportunity. I don’t take this responsibility lightly and I pledge to be a leader for all in our community.
“My focus will now turn to getting detailed briefings from our valuable staff and working with the Chief Executive Officer ahead of being formally sworn in on 7 November.
“I look forward to working with the other 11 elected members in a cohesive and collaborative way, for the benefit of all in our community.”
Mayor Elect Blomeley has served as an Alderman for a total of 12 years as well as having significant private sector experience working at an executive level in various roles over the past 20 years, as well as advisor and Chief of Staff roles in Federal Politics.

- Clarence Bicycle Advisory Committee (Alternative Chairperson)

- Cultural History Advisory Committee (Proxy)
- Partnership Grants Assessment Committee (Proxy)
- Local Government Association of Tasmania General Management Committee.
Outgoing Mayor Councillor Doug Chipman said he wished Mayor Elect Blomeley all the best for this coming term and said he believed the council was in safe hands.
“Brendan has a strong vision for the growth of our city and I wish him and the whole council well,” he said.
