Clarence City Council last night voted on three key matters impacting the city, including the extension of time for the Kangaroo Bay development, and community consultation for both the Lauderdale Canal Park Draft Master Plan and the Dog Management Policy draft review.

After lengthy consideration, Alderman voted to grant the developer of the Kangaroo Bay Hotel and Hospitality School, Chambroad, an unconditional 20-month extension of time to substantially commence the project.

Council and Chambroad will continue discussing arrangements for provision of regular updates in respect to Chambroad’s progress towards substantial commencement as specified by the Sale and Development Agreement.

Clarence City Council Mayor Alderman Doug Chipman said he was pleased that the issue of the time extension has now been resolved.

“The time extension will ensure the integrity of Council’s contract with Chambroad and preserve our right to buy back the land at purchase price should substantial commencement not be achieved.”

Last night’s meeting also saw council approve the Dog Management Policy draft review which will see a four-week period of consultation take place in the coming weeks.

The declared areas of Roches, Howrah and Bellerive beaches are under review with several options included in the consultation process.

The protection of local flora and fauna have also been considered with the draft policy recommending all council bushlands reserves and nature recreation areas become on-lead areas.

The policy also sees the inclusion of a breed specific off-lead exercise area for greyhounds, the first of its kind in southern Tasmania.

The Lauderdale Canal Park Draft Master Plan was also approved for citywide community consultation, with council seeking feedback from the community on key features including inclusive new play spaces, stronger pedestrian and cycle links and improved parking provisions.

Mayor Chipman said he was pleased to see both these matters go out to the public for consultation.

“We value community input and encourage everyone to get involved with these important consultations,” he said.

The draft Dog Management Policy and Lauderdale Canal Master Plan consultations will be available via www.yoursay.ccc.tas.gov.au in the coming weeks, and community members should register if they wish to be notified by email.
